How to get your SOL rent back from empty token accounts
Short answer: every coin you ever bought on Solana opened a small token account in your wallet, and each one holds about 0.002 SOL of rent. Selling the coin doesn’t always close it. Close the empty accounts and the SOL comes back to you. RIP finds them and closes them for free; you approve everything in your own wallet.
What is rent on Solana?
Every account on Solana has to hold a small deposit of SOL for the space it takes up on the network. It’s called rent, but it isn’t a fee: it stays yours, and it comes back when the account is closed.
Each coin in your wallet lives in its own token account. Think of it as a little locker. The first time a coin lands in your wallet (you buy it, swap into it, or someone sends it), a locker opens for it and about 0.002 SOL goes inside.
Why is my SOL stuck in empty token accounts?
Because nothing closes the locker for you. When a coin dies, its locker stays. When you sell all of it, the locker is often left behind too, empty, with the rent still inside. Many wallets don’t even show empty accounts, so you can’t see them.
If you’ve traded memecoins, you may have dozens of these lockers: one for every coin you ever touched. That rent adds up.
How to close empty token accounts and get the SOL back
- Paste your wallet address at yourbags.rip, or connect your wallet. Nothing is signed; we only read public data.
- See your graveyard. Dead coins get headstones, and a box shows how much SOL is waiting: in empty lockers, in dead coins, and in the crumbs of coins still alive.
- Bring it home. Choose what to close. Empty lockers close without burning anything. Dead coins’ worthless crumbs are burned so their lockers can close. Coins still worth something are never chosen for you.
- Approve in your wallet. You see a receipt first, then your wallet shows each transaction. The lockers close and the rent lands back in your wallet.
It’s free: RIP takes no fee, and you only pay the network’s fraction-of-a-cent transaction fee.
Stay safe
- Never share your seed phrase or private key. No real tool needs it, and we will never ask for it.
- We never DM you. Anyone who messages you “from RIP” isn’t us.
- Always check you’re on yourbags.rip before connecting a wallet. See official links.
- Don’t interact with tokens you didn’t buy. Unknown “airdrops” are often bait.
Questions
Is it safe?
Reading your graveyard needs only your public address: nothing is signed and nothing moves. Closing accounts happens in your own wallet: you see every transaction before you approve it, and the only thing that changes is that the empty accounts close and their rent comes back to you. We never ask for your seed phrase, never DM you, and never hold your coins.
How much SOL will I get back?
Each token account holds its rent: about 0.00204 SOL for older accounts and about 0.0015 SOL for newer ones. Ten forgotten accounts are roughly 0.015 to 0.02 SOL; people who traded a lot of memecoins often have dozens or hundreds. The exact amount for your wallet is shown before you sign.
Does it cost anything?
No. RIP takes no fee. You pay only the Solana network fee for each transaction, a fraction of a cent, and it is taken from the rent that comes back.
What about coins I still hold?
An account can only close once it's empty. If a coin is still worth something, sell it first in your wallet; then its empty account can be closed. If only worthless crumbs are left, they can be burned so the account can close. Burning is permanent, so RIP never ticks a coin that is still alive for you: you choose, and it asks you to confirm.
I sold everything. Why is the SOL still locked?
Selling a coin doesn't always close its account. Some apps close it for you when you sell everything; many don't. The empty account stays in your wallet, with its rent inside, until someone closes it.
Which wallets work?
Any Solana wallet that supports the Wallet Standard and can sign transactions, such as Phantom, Solflare and Backpack. On a phone, open the site inside your wallet app's browser. To only look at your graveyard, no wallet is needed: just paste your address.
Will closing an account close my wallet?
No. Only the small token accounts (the lockers) close. Your wallet, your SOL and every other coin stay exactly as they are.
